Follow along with the written pattern for the Honey I’m Comb Blanket Square. The video references the charts and instructions in the pattern.
The tutorial starts with the honeycomb stitch at the center of this square. On wrong-side rows, spike stitches dip down into rows below. On right-side rows, special “joining” stitches tie the legs of adjacent spike stitches together to create the distinctive diamond shapes. Finally, crossed clusters add a pop of texture to the middle of a plain border.
Spike Stitches
Spike stitches dip down into rows below, bringing long legs up to the height of the current row. Since they overlap the stitches below them, they add an extra layer of depth. They’re also a great way to overlap different colors for endless design possibilities.
This pattern uses spike single crochet stitches to form the honeycomb design, but any basic stitch can be worked as a spike stitch! Learn more about Crochet Spike Stitches in this tutorial.
