Bag #6 – Materials & Giveaway – BagAlongCAL

What is the Bag Along CAL?

Every 2 months in 2022, I released a new, free crochet pattern for a bag. The size, style, and type of bag variee, so we could explore lots of different techniques.

Knit Picks Shine Sport

WeCrochet provided all the lovely Knit Picks yarns for these bag designs. For this bag, we’ll be using Shine Sport. The unique blend of Pima cotton and Modal beech wood fiber is sleek, soft, and durable.

Shine Sport comes in an extensive pallete of rich colors, with brights, pastels, and neutrals. The same unique blend is also available in a worsted weight.

Embroidery is Optional

All the crochet for this bag is done in Serrano. The white is added afterward, as embroidery on top of the finished bag.

The embroidery is a chance to let your creativity shine. Follow the designs I made, or make your own! The bag is a blank canvas for your imagination. If you prefer, you can skip the embroidery entirely and leave the bag plain.

Metal Purse Frame

The metal purse frame brings bag #6 together – literally! You can find one at the big box craft stores, but I wanted a brighter silver than what my store carried. I chose this purse frame on Amazon.

This frame measures approximately 3.25 inches in width. When opened flat, it is roughly square. That means the overall opening is about 13 inches around. This is the same measurement as the opening of the bag.

When choosing a frame, keep this measurement in mind. Up to a quarter-inch difference in length (1-inch difference around) shouldn’t affect your finished bag too much. But if the difference is much more than that, the bag will stretch or bunch at the top.

Bag #4 Materials List

• Yarn: Knit Picks Shine Sport – 60% Pima Cotton / 40% Modal natural beech wood fiber, sport weight yarn (110 yds / 50g per skein).
• 90 yds #24488 Serrano
• 5 yds #24486 White
• Hook: US size F (3.75 mm) hook or size needed to match gauge
• Notions:
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  • 3 – 3.5″ Metal purse frame.
  • Sewing needle
  • Sewing thread to match the Serrano yarn (or clear nylon thread)

Gauge:

16 ssc x 22 rnds = 4 inches.

The gauge is measured in terms of split single crochet (ssc), which is used in the pattern. There will be a separate tutorial specifically for this stitch in the CAL. If you would like to check your gauge in the meantime, please see this tutorial on split/centered stitches in the round.
