What is the Bag Along CAL?
Every 2 months in 2022, I’ll release a new, free crochet pattern for a bag. The size, style, and type of bag will vary so that we can explore lots of different techniques.
See the main 2022 Bag Along CAL post for the full schedule and more details.
Knit Picks Brava Bulky
WeCrochet has provided all the lovely Knit Picks yarns for these bag designs. For this bag, we’ll be using Brava Bulky. This is the same Brava yarn we’ve worked with before, but this time in a thick and squishy, bulky weight!

In 3 blue and brown shades, our 3rd bag of the year pairs wonderfully with jeans for a casual summer look. The bulky yarn makes this a quicker project and adds extra strength to the strap.
Bag #2 Materials List
- Yarn: Knit Picks Brava Bulky 100% acrylic, bulky weight yarn (136 yds / 100 g per skein), 1 skein each of:
- #28336 Brindle
- #28358 Solstice Heather
- #28342 Denim
- Hook: US size K / 6.5mm hook or size needed to match gauge
- Notions:
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
- 12 stitch markers or scraps of yarn to use as stitch markers
- 12-inch zipper (see note below)
- 1/2 yard fabric for lining (optional)
- Sewing thread, needle, and pins or clips for lining (optional)
A zipper length between 9 & 12 inches will be ok, but 12 is recommended. The width of the zipper (including the zipper tape on the sides) should be about 1.25 to 1.5 inches.

11 hdc x 8 rounds = 4 inches.
The first section of the pattern can be used as a gauge swatch.

I love my Capian WeCrochet hooks!

Thanks for the chance to win. I’ve tried making my own poms without a pom pom maker before and they didn’t turn out. I’d love to win one!

I have not yet used the WeCrochet yarn I bought. Too many projects

Have you tried WeCrochet hooks or yarn before? What colors do you plan to use for your bag? What style of bag is your favorite? Have you used a pom-pom maker before? What other uses have you found for stitch markers besides marking stitches?
I do have a couple of skeins of Brava in my stash but haven’t used them yet because I haven’t found the right project for them. I’d use neutral colors for my bag. Box bottoms are my favorite type of bags and I have used a pom-pom maker before. I use stitch markers for stitch markers as I don’t need to use them for anything else. Thank you Pia!

This looks like a fun bag! I haven’t tried making one yet, I think I’d like to try it with red, white and blue..it would be perfect for Independence Day!

Great idea! I’d love to see the picture if you do 🙂

Cute bag idea! I’m sure I have three lonely skeins of Brava Bulky to give it a try but so many WIPs right now!

this pompom maker would make projects easier.

I haven’t yet used this yarn and am excited to do so. I think I would do the Mandela bag with 2 shades of blue and one of brown. I saw a basket too that I want to try. Thank you

I love WeCrochet! Great patterns. I can also find beautiful #10 crochet thread in stunning colors. I’ve never used WeCrochet hooks, mainly because I have plenty of hooks already. I have never used a pom pom maker, just plain old cardboard, so it would be great to win these tools!

I love all of the WeCrochet yarn that I have purchased so far. My problem is not enough time to use it all! Silly work keeps getting in the way.
