Simply Sweet Sweater
This adorable, pullover sweater pattern will be available in 6 sizes, from 6 months to 4T. A button closure at the neckline helps it to slide easily over baby’s head. The classic raglan style in 2 colors makes it great for gifting.
Raglan Baby Sweater Knit Along
The sweater pattern will be released in 5 sections. Every time a new section is released, I will update the pattern post to add the new section. That way, you will always go to the same pattern post for the new sections, and once the KAL is finished the entire pattern will be all in one place.
Date (2021) | Pattern Section |
---|---|
January 12th | Collar: Cast on, ribbing and button flap |
February 2nd | Yoke: Raglan shaping |
February 23rd | Body: Separating for sleeves |
March 23rd | Hem: Ribbing and bind off, attaching button. |
April 20th | Sleeves: Picking up stitches, sleeve shaping, cuff and bind off. |
The pace is purposely set up to be slow, so that everyone can follow along and there’s plenty of time for tutorials, hints, and help along the way.

Simply Sweet Raglan Baby Sweater Knit Along Supplies
Knit Picks Brava Yarn
We Crochet / Knit Picks provided the Brava Worsted yarn for this design. I chose Fig (#28432) as my main color, and Dublin (#28429) as my accent color.
Depending on the size you make, you will need 1-2 skeins of the main color, and 1 skein of the accent color. I will update the exact yardage by the time the first section of the pattern is released.
Knit Picks Prism Options Interchangeable Needles
Most of the pattern is knit in the round, and is not dependent on a particular method. You can use double points, circular needles, 2 circulars, or magic loop. I am knitting my sweater using Knit Picks Prism Options needles. Knit Picks sent me these needles to review and to use for this project.
Due to an error on my end, I got them a bit late, so you may see other needles in the videos and pictures for the first few sections.
The gauge for the pattern is 16 sts x 24 rows in 4 inches of stockinette. You’ll need 5mm needles (or the size needed to match gauge), and a set one size (.5mm) smaller for the ribbing sections.
Stitch Markers
You will need 5 stitch markers to mark the increases and the beginning of the round. It is helpful if the round marker looks different from the other 4.
1/2 inch button
You’ll need a small button for the opening. It doesn’t have to be exactly half an inch, slightly bigger would be fine. Smaller may be too small, but you can always adjust the size of your buttonhole by sewing it partly closed if needed. The button will be at the back of the collar, so don’t worry about it being chewed off and swallowed or anything like that.
If you like, you can crochet your own button! Try one of these 4 simple button designs:

I have never worked with Brava yarns, but have read a lot of comments from other knitters who have used it. I like that so many of them said that the yarn was easy to work with. Just from the picture the yarns look soft. Thanks for this giveaway

It really is! I’m enjoying working with it 🙂

I have a goal this year to make it a priority to learn knitting. Obviously working in the rounds isn’t a first-starter pattern…I still need to research what would be a good starting pattern. I have never worked with Brava yarns, but it is one of the yarns that I really desire to. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it, but I’m not one much for buying yarn online. I never know how much to buy as I can’t run around the corner to pick it up. I think when I come to my next project that needs a good amount of yarn, I will make my first purchase.

This small child’s sweater is just what I needed to add to my ‘learning ‘ before I jump into a larger sweater project for myself. Point well taken by giving me the confidence to take the next step for a larger project.
Pia Thadani
Yes! Baby stuff is great for building confidence for bigger items 🙂 I think you’ll be surprised how easy it is once you get going.
