Enchanted Twilight Crochet Hood Pattern

Shrouded in mystery, Enchanted Twilight flows in generous folds to a short capelet, closed softly at the throat with a simple tie. This crochet hood adds a bit of fantasy to any occasion. Wear it as a costume accessory for Halloween or Renaissance festivals, or layer it over your favorite coat for a touch of everyday magic!

Bernat Future Impact Yarn

Bernat sent me some of their lovely Future Impact Yarn, which I used in color 58010 Grape for this crochet hood design. This new yarn is a blend of 3 recycled fibers: acrylic, polyester, and cotton. The blend is soft and strong with a bit of tonal tweedyness and just a touch of shine. It’s a great choice for a more sustainable, everyday worsted-weight yarn.

Linked Double Crochet

Linked double crochet stitches create a fabric which is denser than traditional double crochet, but not quite as stiff as single crochet. Each stitch links to the horizontal bar at the middle of the previous stitch. See this Linked Double Crochet Tutorial for a closer look.

Linked dc tutorial on StitchesNScraps

The Front Bands of the hood use linked double crochet in 2 ways to create a fun design. First, a row of linked double crochet forms the base. Then, on the next row, double crochet stitches dip down into those same horizontal bars, alternating with normal single crochet stitches, to add depth and texture.

Sizes

Small [Large]

Both sizes will fit most adults, depending on the desired look. The small size will be somewhat closer fitting in the hood and does not extend as far out on the shoulders, while the larger size has a drapier hood that folds more at the neckline, and extends to or beyond the shoulders. Use the schematic and measurements below to choose a size.

The following optional adjustments can be made to customize the fit if desired:

  • For a shorter but deeper hood, start working as for size Small. Add 6 rows at the end of the Front of Hood section to make a total of 25 rows. Then work the Capelet as for size Large.
  • To make the Capelet longer or shorter, work more or fewer repeats of Rows 6-8 [4-6].
    • If you work an odd number of repeats, end by working an additional repeat of Rows 6-7 [4-5] (ending after a RS row).
    • If you work an even number of repeats, end by working an additional repeat of Row 6 [4] only (ending after a RS row).
    • In both cases, you will also need to adjust the number of sts worked on Front sections of Inner Edging, and on Front Bands. On Inner Edging, work 1 st into each row, working 1 additional st as needed to ensure you have an odd number.
