Deluxe Bonbon Love Project Kits – Review & Giveaway

Global Backyard Industries has new, t-shirt / jersey yarn kits available! As if that wasn’t exciting enough, this time I got to be a part of it. I designed the Boho Fringed Trivet pattern for one of the kits.

What’s In the Kit?

There are 2 Bonbon Love Project Kits, and 2 Deluxe Bonbon Love Project Kits available. Each kit features 9 skeins of t-shirt yarn, and a pretty cotton project bag to put them in. You also get a link to the free custom crochet patterns designed for the kits (including mine!). The Deluxe kits also include a hook and an enamel pin.

The Yarns

If you’ve never worked with t-shirt yarns before, you’re in for a treat. They’re super squishy and stretchy, and make even the simplest stitches look amazing. The Dune Dreams Deluxe Kit comes in all the yummy earth tones I used for the trivet, and the Moxie Mix Deluxe Kit comes in a mix of bright and lively colors.

If pinks and purples are more your style, the regular Bonbon Love Project Kits come in Cherry Kiss and Grape Crush.

The Hooks

I am not generally a wood hook person. I like metal hooks with squishy plastic grips. But this hook almost makes me change my mind. The maple wood finish was nice and slick, and it has a tapered head which I prefer over inline hooks.

Working with thick yarns can sometimes be a strain on the hands, but the chunky grip made it feel comfortable and easy. The metallic finish on the end was fun too.

I’m tickled by how the hooks match the yarn – the earthy Dune Dreams Kit comes with a gold hook, and the bright Moxie Mix Kit comes with a purple one.

The Patterns

The Boho Fringed Trivet was my pattern – it works up quickly with simple stitches and no need to weave in ends. The other pattern option is the Colorful Coasters by Jennifer Dickerson. Mix and match all the fun colors!

The Extras

I got the yarn and hook first, so I could design the pattern. But once the kits were ready, Global Backyard Industries sent me all the other goodies that go along with it. Take a look!

The bag seems sturdy and just the right size for small to medium projects. I also absolutely love the enamel pin. Between gaming conferences and yarnie conferences, I’m becoming something of a souvenir pin addict. One day, when I have them all displayed nicely, I’ll show you my collection.
