Free Pattern – Message in a Bobble – Harmony Blanket Square #19

Message in a Bobble is pattern #19 in the 2018 Harmony Blanket Knit Along. Puffy bobbles are a fun texture and work really well to create raised shapes and letters. They also remind me of the raised bumps used in braille. This 6 inch blanket square uses bobbles to spell out the word “Love”, in both braille and English versions!

Why braille? I read about a font that integrates written letters and their braille equivalents, so that signs can be displayed in both at once. Fiber arts are naturally so tactile, that I thought it would be neat to create something in knitting that could be read by touch as well.

The pattern includes both written and charted versions of the instructions. You may also want to take a look at my photo and video tutorial for the bobbles used in this pattern.

The Harmony Blanket KAL is a knit-along event hosted by the Underground Crafter, Creative Crochet Workshop, and myself. Together with a great team of guest designers, we will be bringing you 48 blanket square patterns throughout the year. Each pattern will have the same border, so that they can easily be combined into a blanket!

Lion Brand has generously provided us with their lovely Vanna’s Choice yarn for free, to use for our designs. It’s a washable, worsted weight acrylic yarn that’s a great choice for blankets. For more information about the event and links to the patterns, be sure to visit the main #HarmonyBlanket post. I hope you’ll join in the fun!
