Free Pattern – Message in a Bobble – Harmony Blanket Square #19
Message in a Bobble is pattern #19 in the 2018 Harmony Blanket Knit Along. Puffy bobbles are a fun texture and work really well to create raised shapes and letters. They also remind me of the raised bumps used in braille. This 6 inch blanket square uses bobbles to spell out the word “Love”, in both braille and English versions!
Why braille? I read about a font that integrates written letters and their braille equivalents, so that signs can be displayed in both at once. Fiber arts are naturally so tactile, that I thought it would be neat to create something in knitting that could be read by touch as well.
The pattern includes both written and charted versions of the instructions. You may also want to take a look at my photo and video tutorial for the bobbles used in this pattern.
The Harmony Blanket KAL is a knit-along event hosted by the Underground Crafter, Creative Crochet Workshop, and myself. Together with a great team of guest designers, we will be bringing you 48 blanket square patterns throughout the year. Each pattern will have the same border, so that they can easily be combined into a blanket!
Lion Brand has generously provided us with their lovely Vanna’s Choice yarn for free, to use for our designs. It’s a washable, worsted weight acrylic yarn that’s a great choice for blankets. For more information about the event and links to the patterns, be sure to visit the main #HarmonyBlanket post. I hope you’ll join in the fun!

For some reason I didn’t get the email about the new square. I have been getting them in the past. Should I subscribe again, or contact someone else? Thanks! Sharon

Hey Sharon 🙂 Marie handles the mailing list for the KAL – you may want to check with her. If you sign up for my mailing list (see the link at the end of the post), you will get notifications every time I post something.
Thanks!

I was led to this from a website feed but trying to get the pattern for the coffee cup and words. Is that available??
Pia Thadani
That’s someone else’s pattern. It’s on Ravelry here: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/coffee-lovers-dishcloth
Somewhere along the way someone posted a link to my pattern on Pinterest, using a picture from this other pattern.

I started on the Harmony blanket late, and I’m finally up to this square. I’m doing the Braille square, but there seems to be way too many of row 8 where there are two bobbles next to each other, which really should only happen once in the whole square. Can you let me know what the actual repeat row should be?
Thanks, Diane
Pia Thadani
Sorry about that! I was off by one row. I have fixed it on the site, but am currently out of town so will fix the pdf version by early next week. Thanks for letting me know!

I couldn’t get access to the pattern for the coffee. I love coffee and that is my “Go To” drink. Where could I find the written instructions please
Pia Thadani
Hi Bette 🙂 That’s someone else’s pattern and I don’t know where to find it. Somewhere along the way someone posted a link to this pattern on Pinterest, using a picture from someone else’s pattern. Since it’s not my picture, I can’t get Pinterest to take it down.
