What is the Bag Along CAL?
Every 2 months in 2022, I’ll release a new, free crochet pattern for a bag. The size, style, and type of bag will vary so that we can explore lots of different techniques.
See the main 2022 Bag Along CAL post for the full schedule and more details.
Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Bulky
WeCrochet has provided all the lovely Knit Picks yarns for these bag designs. For this bag, we’ll be using Wool of the Andes Bulky. This bulky weight yarn works up quickly, so it’s great for larger patterns. More importantly, the squishy wool felts beautifully!
Since this will be a felted bag, it’s very important to use a good wool for felting. Wool of the Andes Bulky also comes in a superwash variety. It’s a beautiful yarn for all sorts of cozy projects, but be sure not to use it for this one, or your bag won’t felt!
Bag #1 Materials List
- Yarn: Wool of the Andes Bulky 100% wool, bulky weight yarn (137 yds / 100 g per skein), 2 skeins each of:

- #28211 Currant
- Hook: Size J / 6 mm hook or size needed to match gauge

Bag #1 Giveaway
WeCrochet is sponsoring the 2022 bag along event, including some awesome giveaway prizes! For our first giveaway, you could win these enamel pins and stitch markers!

The stitch markers are little enamel yarn balls. On one there’s a cute cat playing with the yarn, which matches one of the enamel pins! This would be an adorable set for any project bag.

Felted projects are so much fun!
Kathryn Austin
I have done one felted project in the past and just haven’t tried it again. The one I did was for a small bag and it was in a kit I received. It was a lot of fun to see how it changed once it was washed.

I have never done a felted project before. I’ve always been concerned with it not turning out how I planned and having wasted good wool!

I’m using up my stash this year so I don’t know what colors I’ll be using yet
Karen
Can’t wait to see the January 18th Bag!!!

I put it up this morning, did you see it? Here’s the link: Felted Crochet Origami Bag Pattern

This looks cool! I’ve always wanted to try felting but haven’t been able to wrap my head around how to plan for the size changes. Thank you for posting it!
Pia Thadani
the best way is swatching 🙂 measure the swatch before and after felting, and note the percentage of shrinkage. Your project should shrink by about that same percentage if you felt it the same way.
Jennifer Caruso
I have never done a felted project before this one. I am a little nervous but I am totally willing to try! I will use this as a project bag!

When you see how easy and satisfying it is, you’ll be hooked! Just remember to use a feltable, wool yarn.
Jeanette Tuttle-Hamer
I have never used feltable wool yarn but look forward to it. I love the look of this bag and will be working on it soon. Also like the colors in the picture.
Lori
I have not done any felted projects but will have to try this one. Thank you so much for the Bag Along CAL going to love this.

I’m so excited for this CAL. These will be great for gifts (unless I end up keeping them for myself).

I have not tried WeCrochet Hooks or yarns but I do have a couple of skeins in my stash that I haven’t worked up yet. It feels luscious in the skein. I haven’t made a bag in a while but I do like this design. I’ve never felted but have seen videos that teach. Looks fairly easy.
I’ll be following along in this bag series.

I haven’t bought anything, but I do love your site!
Virginia Bronner
I have never tried We Crochet hooks or yarn. The colors I would use to make my bag are winter night, cranberry and fairy tale. I want to wait and see more bag patterns before I decide which bag I want to make and I have never felted a project before. Thank you so much for this giveaway.
Tara
I love this CAL for bags, can’t wait to see what the second bag is!
