What is Lunchtime Live?
Lunchtime Live is a weekly series of live videos on my YouTube channel. It’s a chance for us to chat about what’s new at Stitches n Scraps. Think of it as a video newsletter, where you can participate too! I start each episode with a look at the latest posts on the blog. Then I move on to any announcements and sneak peeks at what’s coming up in the following week. Finally, I end the episode with a demo or short tutorial.
For 2022, the demo portion will be a featured stitch of the week. I’ll show you a different stitch pattern each week, alternating between knit and crochet stitches.
Watch Live, or Watch Later!
Tune in here to watch live at 11:30 am, US Central Time on April 14th, 2022. Join in the conversation with the live chat! You’ll be able to ask questions and leave comments, which I can respond to in the video.
If you can’t make it during the live broadcast, that’s ok – you can watch the full episode after it’s over.
Stitch of the Week: Knit Butterfly Stitch
This week’s stitch of the week is the knit butterfly stitch. This lovely pattern can be worked loosely for pretty butterflies, or more tightly to create a quilted effect.
There are many different ways to work the butterfly stitch. Here’s the one we’ll start with:
Cast on a multiple of 10 + 2 sts
Row 1 (RS): K1, [k5, sl5 wyif] to last st, k1.
Row 2: P across.
Rows 3-5: Repeat rows 1-2, then repeat row 1 once more.
Row 6: P3, [pick up 3 loose floats, p1 through floats and next st together, p9] across to last 9 sts, pick up 3 loose floats, p1 through floats and next st together, p8.
Row 7: K1, [sl5 wyif, k5] to last st, k1.
Row 8: P across.
Rows 9-11: Repeat rows 7-8, then repeat row 7 once more.
Row 12: P8, [pick up 3 loose floats, p1 through floats and next st together, p9] across to last 9 sts, pick up 3 loose floats, p1 through floats and next st together, p3.
Repeat rows 1-12 to desired length.
After we run through this stitch pattern, we’ll look at its overall structure and some of the possible variations.
Butterfly Stitch Washcloth
Try another variation of butterfly stitch in this butterfly stitch washcloth pattern. It has all the work happening on the right side instead of on the wrong side.
