Jazzberry Baby Blanket Crochet Along – Week 3

It’s week 3 in the Jazzberry Baby Blanket Crochet Along. Follow along as we make this colorful, textured blanket. There’s still plenty of time to join in! If you’re new to the Intermeshing crochet technique, this is a wonderful project to learn on.

Through sections 1 and 2, we covered all the necessary techniques for the remaining sections. So now we’re going to pick up the pace a bit, and do 2 sections at a time. I have updated the Jazzberry Baby Blanket Pattern to include sections 3 & 4.

Here are a few more tips for this week:

Where to get help

There are still a few people struggling with the intermeshing pattern. If that’s you, keep trying, and come ask for help!

Take a picture of what you have (the clearer and more complete, the better) and post it on the Scrappy Stitchers Facebook group. Everyone is really helpful and if you tag me in it, I’ll come take a look too and see if we can’t figure out where the problem is.

Watch your stitch placement:

The number one issue people are having at this point is skipping stitches. The fabric is dense, and sometimes you don’t see a stitch that’s at the back.

In this swatch (courtesy of Sue Hines), I’ve highlighted two stitches  in green. You can see that on the next row, she’s only worked one stitch between those two. See how that makes all the rest of the stitches in the row lean to the right? It also makes the stair step pattern shift.

Remember that everything should alternate. If you work into a stitch that’s in front, the next stitch you work into should be in the back.  Except for the rows where the pattern changes, if you’re working into a stitch that’s in the front, the stitch you’re working should be at the back, and if you’re working into a stitch that’s at the back, you should be working a stitch in the front. If it’s not alternating, you’ve skipped a stitch somewhere.

Facebook Live video:

I made a quick Facebook live video in the Scrappy Stitchers group, to address some of the issues people were having. It was a last minute thing, so please excuse the bad lighting and chipped nails.

The video starts at covers how to add in the 2nd color (in row 2.2), how to change colors, and how to reverse the direction of the pattern in section 2.

I hope you’re enjoying the CAL so far! The Jazzberry Baby Blanket Pattern has been updated; are you ready to start sections 3 & 4?
