Tutorial – Wraps Per Inch (WPI)
I’ve been working on a project using a package of “mill ends” that I picked up over a year ago. For those of you who aren’t familiar, mill end skeins are like remnants. There’s no weight, fiber content, or even brand listed on the package. I’m writing up the pattern for you, but there’s one problem – I need to tell you in the pattern what weight yarn to use…and I have no idea what weight this yarn actually is! No worries though, there’s a way to find out. First, I take my handy little ruler, and start wrapping the yarn around it carefully, starting at the 1 inch mark and going until I…

Scrappy Stitchers Link Party #3
The most clicked entry in last week’s link party was the beautiful Rainbow After the Storm Shawlette by the Underground Crafter: Now it’s your turn Remember, any fiber related project you’ve made is fine – it does not have to be your own design and you don’t have to have a blog. You can link up your Ravelry project pages or Instagram photos too, so come share your love for fiber! While you’re here, help support each other by clicking on a few of the other entries. If you post about your entry on social media, please use the hashtag #ScrappyStitchersLinkParty so we can all find your posts. A…

Free Pattern – Pacific Sunset Mitts
I got a skein of Lion Brand Landscapes yarn in a goodie bag at the Knit and Crochet Show last year. It’s a soft and silky, worsted weight, acrylic yarn. It’s just a little bit fuzzy, so it has a nice, soft “halo” to it when it’s worked up.The lovely yarn does all the work in this basic fingerless mitts pattern. It works up fast, and is fun and easy to make! 3/2/2016 – Marie Segares of the Underground Crafter has made a podcast version of this pattern! Check it out! This pattern is protected by copyright. Please do not distribute or share this pattern in any way other…

Scrappy Stitchers Link Party #2
We had 3 lovely entries in last week’s link party – not bad for the first week, but let’s see if we can get more this week! For now, I’m doing away with the weekly theme idea, so anything (family friendly) goes. First, let’s look at our entries from last week – they were all very close in views, so I’m highlighting all 3: Mayapple Flower Square by Underground Crafter Missy Cowl by Jessie at Home Kid’s Snowflake Hat by Sarah E. White Now it’s your turn Remember, any fiber related project you’ve made is fine – it does not have to be your own design and you don’t have…

Pattern Review – Nifty Needle Case by Moogly
I loose my yarn needles all the time. (All. The. Time.) Do you? I know I have dozens of them in this house somewhere, but at the moment can only find 3. So when I saw this new “Nifty Needle Case” pattern by Moogly, I decided I had to have one. I’m happy to say it turned out to be exactly like all of Moogly’s patterns – easy to follow, well written and illustrated, artfully constructed, and…well…cute! I had bought a couple of these butterfly buttons on a whim (and a sale) some years ago, and never found the right use for them. I noticed that they matched nicely with some leftover Bernat…

Scrappy Stitchers Link Party #1 – Let it snow
Let’s try something new: Join in this link party and show off your beautiful work! This is a trial run, but if it works out well and you like it, I will make it a regular feature. The party will be open from now through Saturday (based on US central time). At the bottom of the post, next to the “add your link” button, there is a timer showing how much time is left. All fiber arts are welcome, and all you need to participate is a link where we can see your project. Links will be displayed in random order. The most clicked links will be featured on next week’s link…

Free Pattern – Plaid Scarf
Last year, at the Knit and Crochet Show, I took a class called “Mad About Plaid” taught by Michelle Hunter of Knit Purl Hunter. She showed us this brilliant way to create a plaid design with a combination of knitting and crochet techniques. Be sure to check out her site for some beautiful patterns, and an extensive library of tutorials. If you ever get a chance to take her class, I highly recommend it! This scarf pattern is much easier to make than it looks, and does not involve complicated colorwork techniques. Each row is a single color, and the columns are worked later. The knitting part of the pattern is available as…

Free Pattern – Daydreamer Cardigan
This is the final piece of a 4 piece set, designed to match my Puffy Pinwheel Hat, Striped Booties and Dreaming of Pinwheels blanket. The Anne Geddes Baby yarn by Red Heart quickly became a favorite of mine through these projects, and I hope I have a chance to work with it again soon. It’s soft and squishy, but strong too, and comes in beautiful, bright colors! This pattern has instructions for sizes 0-6 months, 6-12 months, and 12-24 months. The images show the 6-12 month size. This pattern is protected by copyright. Please do not distribute or share this pattern in any way other than by sharing a link to this page or…

Last Minute Gift Ideas
I know, I know….I haven’t posted a thing since Thanksgiving! I’m sorry I’ve been so quiet. I’m still here, just a bit swamped right now with a couple of projects that I can’t tell you about yet. Isn’t that the way it always goes at this time of year? Anyway, I just wanted to peek in and say I haven’t forgotten about you all, and I promise I have lots of fun stuff in the works and should have a new pattern out to you soon. Meanwhile, if you’re looking for a last minute gift for someone on your list, or a great hostess gift for that holiday party, here are…

Free Pattern – Fierté
This Thanksgiving, in the wake of the attacks in Paris and other parts of the world, I am particularly grateful for the safety and comfort that I have. Today, a few of my friends and I are posting patterns in honor of / support for France, and this is mine. This easy, somewhat slouchy, hat pattern features a wide band with a French flag detail. Please be sure to check out some of the other patterns too (note – some of these links may not be active right away, but should all be up at some point today): Patriot Square Coaster by American Crochet French Flag Graph on Creative Threads by Leah…
