What is the Fridgies Crochet Along?
Every month in 2021, I’ll release a new, free crochet pattern for a cute refrigerator magnet. They’ll all be similar in style and size. Make them all, and by the end of the year you’ll have a matching set!
A set of magnets would make a great holiday gift too. Since they work up so quickly, you may want to make more than one set!
Prizes too!
Crochet alongs are more fun when there are great prizes! For the Fridgies crochet along, we’ll have a new prize and giveaway each quarter. Scroll down for the entry forms and giveaway details.

Fridgies CAL Supplies
Lion Brand DIY Yarn
Lion Brand provided all the yarn for this crochet along. Their DIY yarn comes in small balls, which is just perfect for the small amounts needed for each magnet. For the whole year of fridgies, you will need: 2 skeins each of white, camel, and black, and 1 skein each of yellow, orange, hot pink, blue sky, royal blue, and red.
I got extra of the white, camel, black, yellow, and orange just to be on the safe side. It’s great yarn for small projects, so there will be lots of opportunities to use up any leftovers.
Xyron Hot Glue Gun
We’ll be attaching the magnets to our crochet using hot glue. Xyron recently released a new line of high-performance hot glue guns, with 4 different styles. They gave me this mini hot glue gun, along with some glue sticks, to use for this CAL.
It’s lightweight, with a comfortable grip. I love that it has a kickstand so I can put it down safely too!
Magnets
Any strong magnets that you can glue onto your crochet will work for these fridgies. Since the magnets are embedded between two layers of crochet, it helps to use super strong ones. For my fridgies, I am using these 1-inch, ceramic disc magnets that I found on Amazon. They come with separate adhesive discs for mounting, but the hot glue feels more secure.
If your magnets are not strong enough to work through the crochet fabric, you can glue them onto the back instead.

I would love the small zippered pouch with snow print on blue.
It would be perfect for keeping my hook, scissors, needle, stitch markers and any other supplies I’m using with my project so I always have everything I need no matter where I’m crocheting.
Jill Smith
Omgosh I love the snow print zipper bags, blue or gray. Or the striped ones. All these bags are very cute. Thanks for doing this CAL!
Dawn Tenneson
Love the blue stipe and the blue rain drops
Verna
I like a few of them, but I think my favorite would be white marks on blue of the small pouches. But they are desirable. Nice pouch for notions, I like to keep all my stitch markers, pencils, darning needles, scissors, tape measure, etc in bags that are easy to find.
Sidtariq
I m subscribing for the first time that’s why no idea about anything. I luv to learn crochet new techniques.
Carol
I like the Indigo and Coral Yarn Pattern. I would keep my scissors, hooks, and stitch markers in it.
Maria
The medium pouch with the red print. It would be great for holding my hooks, tape measure, stitch markers, darning needles, all of the small supplies that tend to disappear.
Jamie G
I like the large charcoal gray with white print bag! And I’m totally looking forward to starting on cute crocheted magnets!
Susan Spiers
Any size pouch! Great for everything from masks to gifts!

I like the one that’s the prize, but would go with the indigo & white pattern if I had to choose another option. I would use it to hold notions for the WIP and keep the zippered pouch in the project bag. Those notions would be my tiny, sharp scissors, tape measure, tin with blunt and loop needles, stitch markers, and of course, the appropriate crochet hook(s).
Barbara
I would love to win this prize. I wouldn’t have any loose items at the bottom of my bag instead they would all be in one place.
Virginia Bronner
For me it would have to be the Kitty on Red Yarn Tote. It would hold whatever project I was working on at the time. I would take it with me on my commute to work

I am going to love this CAL!!! Going to be an awesome Christmas present for my sister-in-;aw as she collects magnets. Sorry can’t visit facebook pages right now as my account is locked as I was hacked.
Pia Thadani
Yay for joining the CAL – I’m so sorry to hear your fb was hacked, that really sucks!
Jill
I love the bags and I would love to win!!

I’ve never tried Unicorn Fibre products but I do wash my crocheted items before gifting them.
Jamie G
I really want to try the unicorn wash! I haven’t blocked too many projects since I’ve made things that didn’t need blocking, but it would be great to use this on items that I’ve sold before shipping them off
Jill Smith
I haven’t blocked much but I have a few things like squares made at different times so they all matched up. I would live to try the unicorn wash items! Thanks for the cal, my mil loved refrigerator magnets! I love them too!
Verna
I have only ‘tried’ to block one project. Acrylic yarn so it didn’t help much, but was the TSS and I should have tried blocking prior to joing the 4 big squares. I don’t work with unspun fiber and haven’t tried the Unicorn clean products yet. My primary experience is with acrylic but I have ventured into cotton, cotton blends, wools and blends and really enjoy using a variety of fibers now.
Barbara
Thanks for doing this cal. I’m usually do crochet cals Not knitting one. Also would love to win.
Virginia Bronner
My favorite pattern was just posted. It’s the lion magnet. My 3 year old granddaughter is in love with lions. A lion is the first thing she wants to color, the first book she picks to read has to do with lions and she is always making the roaring sound of the lion. I will probably make one tonight and bring it to her tomorrow. Thanks for the giveaway.
Pia Thadani
Awesome! Can’t wait to see your lion 🙂
Verna
My favorite LB yarn right now is Comfy Cotten Blend because I’ve been making wearables and expanding my knowledge.
Verna
And I’d make a lacy top or shawl with it.
Debra
My favorite magnet is the bat, it’s perfect for Halloween. I don’t know what I’d make with the yarn but it’s beautiful! I don’t have a favorite yarn but I would like to try the comfy cotton.
MaryCile B Cortez
I don’t care for fridges, but yours are cute.
Jill Smith
I think the bat is my fav right now, I guess because of the season. The unicorn was fun! I have enjoyed all lion brand yarn I’ve used. I can’t really pick a favorite hope you heal quickly and feel much better.
Tonya
I’m not sure what I would make with the yarn, but it looks like it would make an amazing project.
Trish
I’ve been wanting to try this date night yarn for a while now. It’s lovely
Verna
I’ve never tried the WeCrochet Hooks. I enjoyed learning about them with the review you posted. My favorite hook is the I in the set.

I am so very happy I found this. 10 months into it.
Pia Thadani
Yay I’m happy too! And don’t worry, each of the patterns takes maybe a half an hour to make, start to finish. So you can totally catch up!
