My November KAL Progress

I’m almost done with my November cozy, and it’s turning out just as I had hoped! The body is made from the Chamomile Lawn Tea Cosy by Jennifer Adams. The yarn looks a little too grey in this picture, it’s actually somewhat browner than this.

The cozy worked up quickly and easily, and really would have looked pretty on its own, without any further embellishment.

Pattern Modifications

To turn my cozy into a Turkey, I’m adding a head and tail feathers.

I used the head pattern from this entrelac turkey tea cozy pattern It was hard to track down – in the end I could only find it here on Scribd, and I had to download the Scribd app in order to get to the part of the pattern I needed.

On the last row of the scalloped head, I skipped one increase. That way, I was left with 39 stitches (a multiple of 3) instead of 40. Then I worked the edging row as follows: (Sl st in next st, 3 hdc in next st, sl st in next st) 13 times.

Failed Tail Feathers

I designed the tail feathers shown above, but will not be using them. They are too big and heavy for the cozy and make it slip backwards. I will have an updated feather pattern next week.

Meanwhile, here is the feather pattern shown above, in case you want to use it for a different project.

Front:

Row 1: Ch 21, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 18 chs, 5 sc in last ch, working in bottom of chs, sc in next 19 chs.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sl st in first 5 sts, sc in next 5 sts, hdc in next 5 sts, dc in next 5 sts, 2 tr in next st, 5 tr in next st, 2 tr in next st, dc in next 5 sts, hdc in next 5 sts, sc in next 5 sts, sl in next st, fasten off.

Back:

Repeat rows 1 & 2 of front, but do not fasten off

Joining:

Holding front and back together, and working through both layers, sc in next 18 sts, 2 sc in next st, 3 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 18 sts, stuff feather, sc in each remaning st and in sides of rows 1 & 2, adding stuffing as needed, join with sl to first st, fasten off.

Hi, I just came across your blog – I think we’re in the same group on FB. Funny thing is the Turkey cozy you mentioned is mine. I do need to update that and you reminded me. I’ll probably upload the PDF tonight or tomorrow. 🙂

Hi Sara!!! How awful of me for not noticing that 🙁 We actually considered making your pattern entirely (in discussions on the Ravelry group), except we’re doing alternate months and this is a knit month so we wanted the main cozy to be knit. The head part of the pattern worked up great though, thank you for an awesome pattern!
