Materials

Here are my supplies for May’s cozy – the Flower Garden Tea Cosy by Jenny Stacey.

Supplies for May Tea Cozy

Look familiar? These are the leftovers of the yarns I used for my April cozy, plus some blue for the sky and some buttons from my stash.  With so many colors used in both cozies, I’m glad of the chance to use up the leftovers!

I don’t know if there’s enough blue there, nor if the yarns will play nicely with each other, but in the interest of de-stashing, I’m going to try. If it doesn’t work out, I may have to pick up a skein of blue to match the other yarns.

May Pattern Tips

Just like last month, this cozy is for a small, 1-2 cup teapot. You can adjust the sizing in a few different ways.

Bigger gauge

Working to a larger gauge will give you a larger finished piece. This is the simplest option and is the one I used. The pattern calls for DK weight yarn. I am using worsted weight yarn instead. My knitting gauge is already very loose, so I didn’t need to change my needle size, but I did go up a hook size for the crochet parts.

Adding a few stitches

Most of the pattern is very simple with no particular repeat, but the eyelet round for the drawstring requires a multiple of 3 + 1 stitches. You can add as many stitches as you need to fit your teapot, just be sure to add them in multiples of 3.

UK Crochet Terms

The pattern uses UK crochet terms for the flowers. If you’re used to US terms, remember to translate them!
