  • Shane, my new mannequin head

Pattern Review – Crochet Mannequin Heads by 5 Little Monsters

Meet Shane (yes, I name my mannequin heads). He’s about a 6 month old baby hat model, and I made him using the free pattern Crochet Mannequin Heads by 5 Little Monsters. The pattern is easier than I expected and very well written – a beginner would have no trouble following it. Those of you who know me though, know that I can never make a pattern exactly the way it’s written. There’s always something I want to tweak or change to make it my own, and this one was no exception. Unfortunately this time, I wish I had just followed the pattern, and I didn’t realize my mistake until after…

  • Fun Striped Booties - A free pattern on StitchesNscraps.com

    Free Pattern – Striped booties

I made these fun, striped booties to match my Dreaming of Pinwheels blanket. They’re made with the same Anne Geddes Baby yarn by Red Heart. I love the colors, and the acrylic / nylon blend means it’s strong and machine washable too. This pattern has instructions for sizes 0-6 months and 6-12 months   This pattern is protected by copyright. • Dreaming of Pinwheels

Free Pattern – Dreaming of Pinwheels

This whimsical blanket combines my Windy Square and Pinwheel Square patterns. It uses a couple of different joining techniques and a simple striped border. It is made with Anne Geddes Baby yarn by Red Heart, and it has come out really soft and squishy. I had to resist the urge to cuddle up in it myself! At the end of the pattern, I have included a couple of suggestions for alternate color combinations. I have quite a bit of extra yarn left over, so I plan to make another coordinating item – maybe a sweater. I don’t have anything in mind yet so it may be some time before I have…

  • Pinwheel square

    Free Pattern – Pinwheel square

I love to watch pinwheels spinning in a warm summer breeze. Because of the color selection, Anne Geddes Baby yarn by Red Heart was an obvious choice for this project. It comes in a wide array of colors, including those vibrant, bright shades that can be so hard to find in a baby yarn. It’s also a great weight for a baby blanket, and the acrylic / nylon blend means it’s strong and machine washable too. This square was designed to coordinate with the Windy Square pattern I released earlier. The two squares are used together in my Dreaming of Pinwheels blanket. This pattern is protected by copyright. • Windy Square

    Free Pattern – Windy Square

This “windy” blanket square makes me think of a gentle, warm breeze on a bright spring day. I wanted the design to be solid, but still feel light and airy. The yarn that immediately came to mind is Anne Geddes Baby yarn by Red Heart. It’s soft and squishy like a billowy cloud, with a subtle hint of sheen. It’s a great weight for a baby blanket, and the acrylic / nylon blend means it’s strong and machine washable too. I’m working on another square that will coordinate with this one, and should have that for you soon – be sure to follow this blog so you don’t miss it! See the “follow this blog” options…

    Free Pattern – Bunny Bag

This cute drawstring bag is the perfect addition to any Easter basket! It can be used in so many different ways. It’s just large enough for a few treats. You could also fill it with potpourri and sew it shut just under the drawstring for a pretty sachet. You can make it larger or smaller by using thinner or thicker yarns too. There are so many options! This pattern is protected by copyright. • For Emily - One size fits most

    Free Pattern – For Emily

This unique poncho is worked in one piece, from the top down. It has a folded down shirt collar, and a folded up bottom hem, both with a border of little hearts. I have to give a great big thank you to my friend Annie, who convinced me to try the folded up hem! The “one size fits most” design makes this a great pattern for gifting. All the women shown here are wearing the exact same piece. It’s hard not to want to keep it for yourself though! This pattern is protected by copyright. • Jacob & Julia Bracelet

Free Pattern – Jacob & Julia

Jacob & Julia lived on opposite sides of a big wall. They could talk through cracks in the wall, but it wasn’t enough. They needed to be together. Jacob built a ladder on his side of the wall, and Julia built a ladder on her side. When they met at the top and embraced, their two hearts joined and became one. • Poinsettia bottle cozy

Free Pattern – Poinsettia bottle cozy

Need a last minute gift or a hostess gift? Slip a nice bottle of wine into this lovely cozy, and you’re ready to go! While it was designed for wine bottles, the pattern includes instructions to make it somewhat wider, narrower, taller, or shorter as needed, so it can easily be adjusted to fit bubble bath, bath salts, olive oil, or other similarly shaped bottles! This pattern involves some advanced techniques, particularly the colorwork. The border rows are done with alternating colors every stitch, and the main flower pattern is charted and done in the round. I have marked it as an experienced skill level pattern because of these techniques,…
