Free Pattern – Contours Square
There’s very little that’s square about this unique square! It’s made in 4 separate, half-circle pieces that are then joined with an edging and sewn together in the middle. It looks complicated, but the actual crochet is very easy. This square is shown here in 3 colors, but can be made all in 1 color, or in as many as 5 or even 6 (see Notes section for details). This pattern was designed for the Moogly 2016 afghan CAL. If this is the first you’ve heard about it, go check it out! The CAL is nearing the end, but there’s still time to catch up. Also be sure to take a look…

Coming Soon – Holiday Stashdown CAL
I’m excited to be participating in two great CALs that are starting soon! Earlier, I told you about the Mystery Lapghan CAL which started on Monday. Now here’s another one – the Holiday Stashdown CAL. 15 crochet designers (including me) will be sharing 15 free crochet patterns for holiday gifts and decorations. The CAL starts on September 14th and is designed to work from your existing yarn stash, so each pattern will be a one-skein project or a stashbuster / scrap yarn project. Of course if you do buy new yarn, and add it to your stash, then it technically becomes stash yarn too, right? At least, that’s the excuse I’m using!…

It’s just about time for a fun, new CAL, and I couldn’t be more excited! This post contains affiliate links (click here for more info) – if you click on these links and create an account or make a purchase, I may be compensated. I’ve teamed up with 28 other crochet designers to share 36 free crochet square patterns for a one-of-a-kind lapghan! Each pattern will be 6-inches square, using a worsted or aran weight yarn – yarn symbol 4…

Free Pattern – Criss cross apple sauce
The back and forth, crossed post stitches (cables) at the center of this square form a lattice like texture. There is a Jacob’s ladder / braid stitch in each corner, tucked under smaller chain spaces for a more criss-crossed look. The back of the square has a completely different, but also interesting texture, which looks a bit like layered shell stitches. The pattern is written with color changes, but works equally well in one color. This is a more advanced pattern that uses a lot of different stitch techniques, but with the recommended tutorials by Moogly, they shouldn’t be too hard to learn. It could be a great learning tool for a more adventurous beginner or intermediate crocheter.…

It’s been a fun journey, but today is officially the last day of Design Improv Workshop 2 (#DIW2). Of course that doesn’t mean you can’t finish your scarf, or even start one if you haven’t already! I had originally intended to make 4 repeats (2 in each direction) for a regular scarf, but after the first 2 I realized I didn’t have enough yarn…
