Goofy Granny Stitch Scarf Pattern
Granny got a bit goofy with this modified granny stitch scarf pattern! Spike stitches break away from the basic granny stitch, dipping down into the row below to add texture and depth. The resulting fabric is warm, reversible, and squishably soft. Designed for gifting, this easy-to-memorize stitch pattern works up quickly in bulky yarn. Just remember to make one for yourself too!

2026 Yarnsgiving with CYC & CGOA
Each year, the Craft Yarn Council (CYC) hosts a Yarnsgiving campaign. It runs from October 10 (I love Yarn Day) to December 1 (Giving Tuesday). This year, the Crochet Guild of America (CGOA) is supporting the project by organizing a Community Projects page with knit and crochet patterns. This granny stitch scarf pattern is my crochet design for the event.
Prym Crochet Hooks
The Prym Ergonomic Hooks that I used to crochet this pattern are my favorite to work with. Prym gave me a set at a show a few years ago, and I’ve been hooked ever since!
The synthetic material is different from the typical acrylic hooks I had tried before. It’s smooth and glides like metal, but feels warm and soft. The lightweight and ergonomic shape also make marathon crochet sessions much easier on my hands.
I do tend to crochet looser than most, so while I actually used the size J (6 mm) hook, for my scarf, I recommend the 7 mm hook for the pattern. As always, use whichever size hook you need to match the pattern gauge. Get the whole set, and you’ll always have the right size!
Cascade Eco+ Yarn
For this granny stitch scarf pattern, I chose Cascade Eco+ wool yarn. Cascade had sent me this yarn for a previous pattern. At 478 yds each, these are very generous skeins, and I had more than enough left over for this scarf.
The 100% wool yarn is soft and lofty. Since it’s bulky weight, the scarf worked up in hardly any time at all! There are lots of lovely colors to choose from, and I particularly like the heathered hues. For my scarf I chose 9654 Campfire Heather and 9450 Smoke Heather. I used the same combination in the Rust and Shadows brioche knit scarf.
Materials
- Yarn: Cascade Eco+ – 100% wool, bulky weight yarn (478 yds / 8.8 oz / 250 g per skein)

- Notions:
- Scissors
- Tapestry Needle
