Empowering Women – The Love Is Project

The Love Is Project sent me one of their original love bracelets to review. Love expresses itself in a myriad of ways and means something different to each of us. For this innovative company, love means empowering women in developing countries throughout the world.

What is the Love Is Project?

The Love Is Project is an initiative that helps to empower women in disadvantaged communities. The idea started from the founder’s appreciation of beadwork created by Massai artisans that she met in Kenya. She worked with these artisans to create a bracelet with the word “Love” on it and to sell it around the world.

From there, the business grew into other communities in Indonesia, Equador, India, and other countries. Through the creation and sale of these bracelets, the Love-Is Project creates fair wage jobs, and opportunities for female artisans in these communities.

The Original Love Is Bracelet

The Love Is Project sent me a bracelet in their original design – A simple beaded band with the word “Love”. This original design is available in a variety of colors, and also in a skinny version.

One of my favorite things about this bracelet is that it actually fits. I have large wrists, and a lot of bracelets (even the adjustable ones) simply don’t fit me at all. The Love Is bracelet expands all the way from 6 inches to 10 inches, so it goes on easily! The clever pull-tie closure can be adjusted with one hand.

The delicate beading is beautiful, with a clear message of love. The beads are set on top of a base that I believe is leather (though I’m not 100% sure). It’s soft and comfortable to wear against my sensitive skin.

Other Designs

As the company expanded, they added more designs. Many of the new designs highlight the artwork and materials of the regions in which they are created. The hearts collection from Equador features indigenous Tagua nuts. Woven Friendship bracelets from Indonesia feature common motifs in colors representing water, fire, air, and earth. The bracelets from Guatemala are inspired by traditional woven hair ribbons.

There are also rainbow bracelets perfect for pride month, bangles and cuffs, and other accessories too. I’m thinking of getting Millie her own Love Is Project dog collar so we can match!

Love Is – Empowering Women

Whichever design you choose, you will be helping to support women run businesses in disadvantaged communities. You’ll also be spreading a simple expression of love. Love Is Project bracelets and accessories make great gifts, while supporting a great cause. Getting married soon? Give them as wedding party gifts!

Share them with the ones you love, and then share your story too. Love is universal, but at the same time, it can mean different things to different people. What is love to you?
