What is Lunchtime Live?
Lunchtime Live is a weekly series of live videos on my YouTube channel. It’s a chance for us to chat about what’s new at Stitches n Scraps. Think of it as a video newsletter, where you can participate too! I start each episode with a look at the latest posts on the blog. Then I move on to any announcements and sneak peeks at what’s coming up in the following week. Finally, I end the episode with a demo or short tutorial.
For 2022, the demo portion will be a featured stitch of the week. I’ll show you a different stitch pattern each week, alternating between knit and crochet stitches.
Watch Live, or Watch Later!
Tune in here to watch live at 11:30 am, US Central Time on April 28th, 2022. Join in the conversation with the live chat! You’ll be able to ask questions and leave comments, which I can respond to in the video.
If you can’t make it during the live broadcast, that’s ok – you can watch the full episode after it’s over.
Stitch of the Week: Crochet Granny Stitch
This week’s stitch of the week is the crochet granny stitch. It’s open and airy, with a lot of vertical stretch. This is the same basic stitch pattern that’s used in traditional granny squares. I used a variation of this stitch to make the Simply Scrappy Water Bottle Holder.
The basic concept is to work several stitches in each ch-1 space, and then chain 1 and skip to the next space. You can do a variety of things with the edges, but the important thing is to keep the stitch count the same on each row. Here’s how I made the swatch:
Chain a multiple of 4.
Row 1: 2 dc in 4th ch from hook (skipped chs count as first dc), ch 1, sk next 3 chs, [3 dc in next ch, ch 1, sk next 3 chs] across to last ch, dc in last ch.
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in next ch-1 sp, [ch 1, sk next 3 dc, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp] across to last 3 dc, ch 1, sk next 2 dc, dc in last dc.
Repeat row 2 to desired length. We’ll work through this pattern together, and then talk about some other edge options as well as other variations.
