Tea Cozy Tuesday – December – Week #2

I’m working ahead on our final Tea Cozy Tuesday pattern, so that we can finish in time for holiday gifting. This month is a crochet along (CAL) pattern. See my December CAL progress so far, plus some pattern tips and modifications!

My December CAL Progress

This month we are making the Scallop Tea Cozy by CrochetRoo. I will be making the angel version of the pattern. So far I have the front and back done – all that is left is to sew them together and put the head on.

Pattern Tips

The “scallops” referred to in the pattern are Crocodile stitch. If you’re not familiar with that stitch, take a look at my crocodile stitch tutorial. The type and number of stitches within each scale may differ, but the general concept is the same.

Pattern Modifications

After 8 rows of crocodile stitches (16 rows total), I shifted everything over so the crocodile stitches from the next row would be staggered between the ones from the previous row. This meant one less pattern repeat on each side.

I would like to say I did this because I wanted to decrease the bulkiness at the top. The truth though, is that I was running low on the white yarn and thought the decrease would help stretch it. Reducing the bulkiness was an unexpected benefit! It turns out I had more than enough yarn in the end, but was still happy with the modification.
