Readers.com reached out to me to review their reading glasses, and I’m so glad they did. To be honest, I’d never thought about using readers before. I had no idea what I was missing until they sent me a free pair to try out and review!

I’m not old enough for reading glasses!

At least that’s what I thought. When I thought of readers, I thought of my parents and grandparents. But the truth is, it’s not a matter of age. Lots of people, of all ages, can benefit from a little boost to their vision now and again.

Too much screen time

You may think I spend my day knitting or crocheting every day…I wish! I actually spend most of my time in front of the computer screen, writing, editing photos and videos, and responding to comments and emails. Between that and social media, 12 or more hours of screen time in a day is not unheard of.

By the end of the night, my eyes are tried, and it can be hard to see my stitches, or to read the fine print on yarn labels. I have an Ottlite floor lamp that has a built-in magnifying glass. Lately I’ve found myself relying on that to see things up close.

A much needed boost

I’ve been using the glasses daily for a little over a week now. My current crochet project involves fur yarn, which is notoriously hard to see. The glasses have been very helpful, and I haven’t had to use my magnifying glass at all.

Choosing reading glasses from Readers.Com

Readers.com has a wide array of glasses to choose from and most have additional color options. It’s almost overwhelming. Luckily, the site has robust search and filter functions to make it easier to find your perfect glasses. For me, it was the Laura.

Frame width:

There’s nothing worse than glasses that are too tight, or that keep slipping down your nose. Luckily, Readers.com offers glasses in several different size tiers. I thought I had chosen a wide width frame, but looking back at the website I see that they’re actually average width. They fit me perfectly – snug without being too tight.

There is also a large variety of frame shapes to choose from, and even a guide to help you choose the one that fits your face best!

Lens type

Depending on your needs, you can get sunglasses, blue light lenses, bifocals, or even custom lenses with different strengths in each eye! I thought about blue light lenses to ease the strain of so much computer time, but I really didn’t want to wear them all day. So I opted for “fully magnified” lenses, which simply means normal lenses that have the same strength across the whole lens.

Color

Most of the frames come in at least 3 or 4 color options. I did think about some of the frames that come in purple or green, but ended up liking the frame shape of the Laura best. Out of the options, I decided on classic black.

Strength

Here’s where I really had no clue what to choose. Since I wear contacts normally, I decided I only needed a little bit of a boost. So I went with the lowest power available – +1.00. The options go from 1.00 up to 6.00 with some half and quarter options in-between. The glasses work great and are very helpful, but honestly I wish I’d gone slightly stronger – maybe 1.50.

I showed off my new glasses in my Lunchtime Live video on September 24th, 2020. Here’s just that portion of the video.

Give them a try!

I didn’t know I needed readers until I tried them. My eyes feel better, and I’m able to work on my projects longer. If you’ve never used readers, give Readers.com a try. They have some very affordable styles to get you started, and you may be pleasantly surprised like I was.
