A Coincidental Yarn Shop
Saturday afternoon, we drove into the city to see the Flatts & Sharpe All Ages Show. My new favorite guitarist was playing.
Luckily, we arrived a little early. Just as we were walking up to the venue, I saw this across the street:
Well you know I had to stop in…and I’m so glad I did! Saturday also happened to be the start of the Chicago Area Yarn Crawl. I enjoyed the event last year, but I didn’t think I’d be able to participate at all this year. As it turns out, Knit 1 was one of the stores in this year’s crawl! I got my passport stamped, entered a drawing, and got a free pin and 2 free patterns. I also spent a few moments chatting with a couple of lovely ladies who were out crawling too.
The store was big and well organized, and the staff was very friendly. They had a couple of different work spaces, and you could tell that people hang out there and stitch together often. It had that homey feel that all good, local yarn stores have.
The selection of yarn was amazing, but seemed to be mostly higher end yarns. I may have missed some though – I only had a few minutes, so I browsed through quickly. I’ve been really good for the last year or so about not buying yarn unless I had a specific project in mind…but how could I resist? Particularly with the yarn crawl discount! I ended up with these beautiful Shibui Staccato skeins.
I knew I had a 1-off Shibui skein in my stash, which I thought was the same and would go perfectly with these. Unfortunately, that turned out to be Maai, which is a different weight. It’s ok though, I also have a HUGE skein of sparkly Anzula Nebula in a silvery brown, which will pair perfectly with these for a shawl!
I made it to the concert just in time to see all the great performances, and from there we headed off to spend the evening with our friends. The day was all about good music, good food, and good friends…and unexpected, yummy yarn. What a great day!
