Starting small
I love to shop small business for that personal touch, and because I know where my money is going. You’ll get that same personal touch here. I’ve made the shop very small to start out, focusing on just a few yarns that I’ve enjoyed using recently. As these sell, I plan to expand to offer more colors and products.
King Cole yarns
King Cole is a yarn manufacturer based out of the UK. I first saw their yarns at a trade show, and have always liked the quality. They have some beautiful colorways and unique textures to explore.
In the yarn shop
Currently in the store you’ll find 4 King Cole yarns:
- Summer 4-Ply: A light cotton/bamboo blend, fingering weight yarn, with a unique crinkled texture
- Drifter DK: A soft, acrylic/cotton blend with just a touch of wool, in lovely marled stripes.
- Raffia: A rayon ribbon yarn with a distinctive, stiff texture perfect for bags and sun hats
- Comfort Aran: A super soft, worsted weight, acrylic/nylon blend that’s fabulous for wearables and baby items.
Why a yarn shop?
I’ve been tossing around the idea of selling yarn for several months now, and researching what I would need to do to make that happen. But I was sitting on the fence, a bit nervous to make that leap. (If I’m honest, I’m still a bit nervous).
Then I released my Stepping Out Sun Hat pattern. When I first designed it, the yarn was available in the US through a couple of websites. But by the time I published it, it was out of stock everywhere. A reader told me that she would love to make the hat but was really having a hard time tracking down the yarn. I tried to help, and I couldn’t find it either. That’s when I decided it was finally time to open the store. That reader has now become the shop’s very first customer!
Why US sales only?
The store is currently for US sales only. Why? Because there is a LOT more involved in selling internationally and I’m just not set up for it yet. There are tax, shipping, and customs considerations that would all need to be sorted out first. Sometime in the future, as the store grows, I would love to open it up to international sales. But at the moment, I can only successfully support US transactions.
