Kristen
As many of you know, I spend most Friday evenings with a knitting/crochet group at my local yarn store. This past Friday, I got to meet someone new, and I thought you might like to meet her too. This is Kristen:
Kristen is 8, and already crocheting like a pro. When I met her, she was working on a cupcake carrier – a very clever design that her mom taught her. After making holes around the edge of a plastic container, Kristen crocheted a poufy top with a draw string. The end result was a cute and sturdy bag with a nice flat bottom. I imagine this would make a great project bag, that could function as a yarn bowl as well if needed. I watched her work for a while and she’s a natural – she finished this bag in just a few hours, and it turned out really nicely.
I asked Kristen how long she had been crocheting, but she didn’t know. She said she doesn’t remember learning, and can’t remember a time when she didn’t crochet. Her mom told me she was about 4 or 5 when she learned. I was about the same age when I first learned, and it was my mom who taught me too, so it was really neat to see. How about you? When did you learn to knit or crochet, and who taught you?

How cool! Well, my grandma tried to teach me when I was 9 or 10. There was one little thing that wasn’t clicking. I could see it, thought I should be getting it. Boy, I was frustrated. It wasn’t till a few years later that I figured it out. She’s left-handed and I am predominately right. I am ambidextrous to some extent, but only if I want to or try. Never gave it a thought. So I “taught” myself by making a queen size afghan for my parents! haha!! Next time you see Kristen give her a good job from me too! Thanks for your offerings, both verbal and yarnable! Hugs

I was 9 & taught by a lady that only spoke French!! I was walking by her house & saw her crocheting & was fascinated!! She motioned me up to her porch & started to show me how to make a chain, then sent me home to make it. Went back the next few days & she showed me how to do single. Lost touch with her after that, not sure what happened to her but I think she pasted away. But I continued to be interested in crochet & brought books to learn the rest

My Aunt, my Mothers sister, taught me a little but never really took to it until many years later. Then I bought books and started from there. Still don’t know all the different stitches but love the Granny Square! Have made 2 king size bed covers for daughters, a couple of queen size ones and about 10 afghans in the last 2 years, using the Granny Square Pattern. Have started infinity scarves for Christmas Presents this year also.
