Happy “I Love Yarn” Day!

It’s I love yarn day today! It was started by the Craft Yarn Council as a way to celebrate our passion and get people excited about fiber arts. As usual there are lots of fun events going on. Here’s how you can get involved:

I love Yarn Day!

  • Start with the website: https://ILoveYarnDay.com. Here you can find out all about the celebration, and find links to free patterns, cute merchandise, and more!
  • Stitch it Forward: A big part of ILYD is sharing fiber arts with new people. Stitch it forward by teaching one person how to knit or crochet (or do any other fiber art) today!
  • Use the hashtags: Post your ILYD pictures, tweets, etc with the hashtags #ilyd2015 and #stitchitforward
  • Win PRIZES!: The Craft Yarn Council is running a couple of different ILYD contests, with awesome prizes – maybe you’ll win one! You can find the entry guidelines here.
  • Check with your local guild chapter to see if they have any ILYD events scheduled today. My local CGOA chapter is getting together to crochet lemon stress balls for the Big Apple Lemon Drive.
  • Many local yarn stores are hosting events too. My LYS is kicking off a big yarn tasting today!

Busy with work, life getting in the way, or just can’t make it to any of the events? It happens – I’m actually right there with you today. It’s OK, ILYD is about passion for yarn, so do whatever your love leads you to. Talk to someone you meet today about your art and why you love it, and maybe you’ll end up planting the seed for a future fiber addict. Work on a charity project. Support your favorite fiber business by buying a pattern or adding to your stash. Or maybe just spend a little time knitting or crocheting in public, always a great way to start a conversation!

However you celebrate, I hope you have fun!
