Autumn Air Cowl Crochet Along

In week 4, we are finishing the cowl with a row of triangles and the top edging.

It’s all about the decrease

The final round of the cowl is triangles instead of diamonds. To get the triangle shapes in the beginning, we started with 1 stitch and increased until we had 9. This time we’re going to decrease from 9 down to 1. The decreases are done at the very end of each return pass, by pulling through 3 loops at once instead of just 2.

Remember to skip the vertical bar too!

Each decrease combines the edge stitch with the vertical bar next to it. At the beginning of the next row, we skip the first stitch, just like we’ve been doing all along. Now though, that first stitch is the decrease. So when we skip that stitch now, we have to skip the whole stitch. This includes that edge like we’ve had all along, plus the vertical bar that’s been connected together with it.

If you don’t skip both, you’ll end up basically adding your decreased stitch back in, and you won’t get triangles.
