Materials

Yarn

This month we’re making the Fairy Cake Tea Cozy by Frankie Brown.  I decided to make a red velvet fairy cake in a green wrapper, with cream cheese icing.

Yarn and buttons for the March tea cozy

Once again I managed to find all the yarn I needed in my stash. I’m using Lion Brand Amazing in the rainforest colorway for the main portion of the cozy. The burgundy yarn for the cake portion is Caron Simply Soft. Finally, Lion Brand Pound of Love in cream will be the icing

Buttons

My favorite find was the buttons for the “sprinkles” on top. My local yarn store has a large jar full of all different shapes and sizes of buttons. As it turns out, this is a charity button jar.

The rule is you can help yourself to whatever buttons you want, in return for making a donation (of any amount you deem appropriate) to the charity box. What a great idea! I found these little red buttons that I think will be just perfect.

March Pattern Tips

The pattern calls for DK weight yarn, and once again I am substituting worsted weight. Since it’s mostly stretchy ribbing around the base of the teapot, the fit is somewhat forgiving.

Weight categories like worsted weight and DK are ranges rather than specific sizes. All of the yarns I picked are on the lighter end of the worsted weight range, so they should work out fine.

As always, it’s very important to check your gauge, particularly if you are substituting yarns!
