January KAL Pattern
We’re starting things off with a knit along (KAL) for January. The January cozy will be the Aran Sweater Tea Cozy by Patons. This pattern is also available on Ravelry.
I’m relatively new to cables so this pattern is a bit scary for me, but I could definitely use the practice, and it’s so pretty! For now, let’s gather materials and make a gauge swatch.
Materials
The materials needed for this pattern are:
- 208yds / 190m of worsted weight yarn. The recommended yarn is Patons Décor
- Size 7 (4.5mm) needles – or size needed for gauge
- Set of double-pointed needles (or circular needles) in the same size
- Cable needle
- Stitch holder
- 3 toggle buttons
Most of the pattern is worked flat, with only the sleeves knit in the round. The instructions are written for double-pointed needles, but 2 sets of circular needles or the magic loop technique could certainly be used instead.
Share Your Choices
I will be using this as a stashbusting opportunity but have not yet decided which yarn to use. Which yarn and buttons will you choose? Share the pictures with the hashtag #Tea_Cozy_Tuesday.

I’m gathering my materials! I emailed Patons to see if there’s any errata, but haven’t heard back yet.

ok, so I started a ravelry group for this C/KAL, changed my mind and tried to get it deleted, and then got lots of people asking me to leave it up…so I changed my mind back again. Meanwhile, I accidentally lost my admin privileges by leaving the group, and was working on getting them back…but then I decided to just give up and start a new group.
So, long story short, there’s a ravelry group now…and here it is: https://www.ravelry.com/groups/tea-cozy-tuesday-cal—kal

Can I find time to fit in another KAL along with every thing else? I might wait for your first crochet tea cozy to come along. I can crochet in my sleep but knitting takes a little more attention for me.

It’s pretty laid back…make a cozy whenever you can and you like the pattern 🙂

Cute tea cozy! I went to a tea ceremony at an LYS that included making a tea cozy while we were there. It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed trying different tea’s.

That sounds like fun! Will you be joining us for the KAL?
