A little background: I live in the suburbs and have almost all my life. I hardly ever make it into the city for anything. My husband, on the other hand, lived downtown when I met him, and still commutes there every day for work. This past weekend was our 5th wedding anniversary. My wonderful husband planned a whole weekend in the city, including fancy dinner reservations and a fancy hotel in an awesome location close to everything.
I call it my “even though” weekend, because it was wonderful…even though we were both too sick to want to do anything much…and even though we hardly got any sleep because we were up coughing all night…and even though he lost his voice on Saturday morning and still doesn’t quite have it back yet.
We tried one restaurant that we’ve been talking about trying for years, and had one amazing dinner at the steakhouse attached to the hotel. We took a bit of a walk at one point, and did some sight seeing and window shopping. Another time we went out for lunch to a neat little marketplace where my husband likes to go during the week.
In the mornings, while he slept in, I took my knitting to the hotel lobby and did a little people watching. We spent the rest of the time relaxing in the hotel room doing exactly what we do at home – watching tv together while I knit. Here’s the baby sophisticate I made last week along with his WIP big brother from this weekend. I used smaller needles than before, for a tighter fabric, but more stitches than before, for a looser fit. Just needs the collar / button band and some blocking!
And, just for fun, here’s a picture of some bacon on a stick 🙂
