Knitting Along 3 – Anthology Blanket by the Underground Crafter

We’re a little more than halfway through the Anthology Blanket Knit Along on Underground Crafter!

Anthology Blanket KAL by Underground Crafter

We’ve finished 16 out of the 30 squares. I showed you my first 5 squares, and squares 6-10. I’m a little late in showing you squares 11-15, but here they are:

Squares 11-15 - Anthology Blanket KAL

From left to right, top to bottom, there’s Diagonal Broken Rib, Diagonal Rib, Tiny TrianglesGarter Stripes, and Purled Ladder.

Just when I thought these were getting easier for me, I ran into issues. You can see the unevenness in the middle of the diagonal rib square. That’s because I made a mistake, didn’t notice it until several rows later, and dropped the stitches down to fix it…badly. Some stitches are pulled tight, others are loose, and it really shows because of the ribbing pattern. I’m hoping it will even out in blocking.

My favorites for this section were the diagonal broken rib and the purled ladder. I love the way the broken rib looks like a twisted rope, almost cable like, but without the fuss of cables. The purled ladder is almost like a basket weave with lines of purl stitches in-between, and looks really neat up close. I didn’t like the triangles square in this yarn though. If you look at it closely, you can sort of see the triangles, but I think this yarn just doesn’t have the stitch definition needed for that pattern. It looks really pretty on the pattern post though!

Now that we’re past the halfway point, I thought I would start blocking the squares…then realized I should probably sew in the ends first, at which point I said “tomorrow” (4 days ago). I’m a little scared of trying to weave in the ends. I’m not great at it with knitting, and often end up adding bulk or messing up the tension in the surrounding stitches. This is one of the skills I’m hoping to get better at through this KAL. It just takes practice, right? I’m going to just go through it slowly and carefully, and I promise I’ll show you the results (either way) with my next update.

I have to admit that I find weaving in ends on knitting projects way more annoyed than in crochet projects. I usually weave them into the garter stitch borders on the wrong side. (And, if it makes you feel better, I think I almost lost it when making the Diagonal Rib sample. Lots of pulling back, start overs, and the whole nine!)

I love how yours are coming out, and thanks for sharing your progress!
