Knitting Along 6 – Anthology Blanket by the Underground Crafter

I finally finished my blanket for the Anthology Blanket Knit Along!  Did you do the KAL too? If so, remember, you have until the end of November to finish up your blanket and enter the giveaway. The squares were becoming a Friday night stitching group ritual for me, and I can’t believe it’s done. I’m really happy with how it turned out though:

In my previous posts, I showed you all the squares, 5 at a time: Squares 1-5squares 6-10squares 11-15, squares 16-20, and squares 21-25. Finally, here are my last 5 squares. From left to right, top to bottom: Diagonal Purl, Garter Rib, Garter & Stockinette Boxes, Dashes, and  Double Andalusian.

As you can see, I ALMOST made it through the whole KAL on just my scraps, but in the end I had to buy one skein of green to finish it off. Luckily, it was a no dye lot yarn and I was still able to figure out which one it was!  Thank goodness for my Ravelry stash entries. With the extra green yarn and the leftover bits of the other colors, I was able to make a matching hat too.

Joining and Edging:

7 inches each, my squares were already a bit big, so I opted to keep the borders small. To join the squares, I used this crocheted technique from Wool & the Gang. It’s basically just slip stitches back and forth between two pieces, but it makes a really neat, zig-zag design. I liked it because it looks nice on both sides of the fabric.

As a bonus, from the front it also looks like my current favorite, sl st – ch 1 edging! That was the edging I wanted to use anyway, so that made this the perfect joining technique. I started by working across the horizontal rows – here are the first few rows done.

I would have taken more pictures of the edging and joining process, but there was a baby on the way and I barely managed to wash and block it in time. I hope she likes it!
